Hazy beatcraft steeped in Indian soundtrack style funk, strings and percussion from the indefatigable Madlib – Volume 3 in the increasingly adventurous and conceptual outings of the Beat Konducta! This time out Madlib, er, Beat Konducta is conducting beats, strings & things from India and/ or otherwise East – but the way in which the beats bluntly thump is quintessential Madlib – you know it and love it from the first beat! 'Lib really breathes fresh life into this approach – going miles deeper than anyone out there doing the Bollywood-hip hop hybrid – coming up with a sound all his own. 'Onthanewthing', 'Indian Deli', 'Rumble', 'Dancing Girls Theme', 'Piano Garden', 'Dark Alley Incidental Music', 'Early Party', 'Fifth Chant', 'The Rip Off (Scene 3)', and 'Sitar Ride'.

LP, Vinyl record album. A mad mix of spaced out jazz funk from Madlib – working here in a style closer to his benchmark Yesterday's New Quintet mode of forward looking band-based grooves – but also taking it even further and into deeper realms! The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble finds 'Lib & co paying homage to a universe of late 60s & 70s soul jazz and fusion funk influences, as well as some more modern practitioners – with tracks dedicated to Horace Tapscott, Phil Ranelin, Roy Ayers and others – some covers and others composed by Madlib.

Madlib is a character whose ambition knows no bounds, and also one of the rare modern masters whose productivity is to be cherished – as busy as he is, we're never disappointed with the output – rather than spreading himself too thin, he brings a range of material that rolls from dust funk & hip hop grit to far out funk jazz percussion gems like this one! Madlib presides over a cast of players (be they living-breathing folks or Madlib alter egos) that lay down loads of drums & percussion, piano, Moog, Rhodes, guitars, bass, sitar, vibes and more. Titles include 'Derf (For Derf Reklaw)', 'One For The Monica Lingas Band', 'Waltz For Woody (For Woody Shaw)', 'Tones For Larry Young', 'Black Renaissance (For Harry Whitkaker)', 'Mystic Voyage (For Roy Ayers)', 'The Trane & The Pharoah (For John Coltrane & Pharoah Sanders)' and more. Madlib's funky sound cues for the excellent Stones Throw documentary My Vinyl Weighs A Ton – his first ever bonafide film soundtrack material – smartly steeped in all the elements that make the Stones Throw label and the the man himself so great! The label's ouvre over the years strongly has represented classic and underground funk and soul, leftfield hip hop, and diverse strains of jazz and psych, and Madlib wise concentrates all that into this tight, beats-driven soundtrack material. 10 untitled funky sound cues on 10-inches of vinyl. LP, Vinyl record album.

The restlessly inventive Madlib beats and production for Pinata, the excellent duo project with MC Freddie Gibbs! If you'll forgive us a little bit of repetition – because we KNOW we've written this before – there's just something extra riveting about Madlib's production work for straight-shooting, street lingo-slinging, no nonsense MCs.

The freewheeling inspiration and bottomless depth of unpredictable sample funk is there, as always. It's just leaner, tighter and with a thicker backdrop of beats than on some the more freeform Madlib projects.

We wouldn't dream of fronting on Freddie Gibbs' impeccable rhymes on the vocal version, but these moody instros are incredible, on par with Madlib's best work. Titles include 'High', 'Bomb', 'Robes', 'Scarface', 'Deeper', 'Harold's', 'Thuggin', 'Real', 'Uno', 'Pinata' and more. LP, Vinyl record album. Madlib invades Blue Note! He gets free reign of the catalog for this mix of sampler genius and live band interpretations, too, as/ with Ahmad Miller, Yesterdays New Quintet, Malcolm Catto, Medaphoar, and others from the Stones Throw camp. This one's truly a conceptual triumph, if there ever was such a thing – one of the greatest hip hop producers alive, given carte blanche with the source beats of the century!

Madlib's Blue Note crates are heavily weighed in the mid 60s through mid 70s electric beats that often get the shaft in mainstream jazz round-ups, but floor the beathead world into overdrive. Re-interpretations, remixes, and revisions are spliced seamlessly with the source samples, creating a whole new world where hip hop and late model live funk not only co-exists with classic Blue Note jazz, but it actually draws a linear transition between the 2 genius art forms. Beautiful stuff – if the album isn't the most original idea to come along all of these years into the hip hop & jazz underground, it's certainly one of the most perfectly realized projects of its kind, ever! It's one for the time capsule – easily one of Madlib's masterpieces, and pure funky sample wizardry by any standard! Includes Monk Higgins' 'Slim's Return' interpreted by Ahmad Miller and DJ Lord Such on cuts, 'Donald Byrd's 'Distant Land', 'Ronnie Foster's 'Mystic Bounce', Yesterday's New Quintet's adaptation of Wayne Shorter's 'Footprints', Madlib Invazion's 'Funky Blue Note', the Joe McDuphrey Experience take on Horace Silver's/ Herbie Hancock's 'Peace/ Dolphin Dance' and lots more.

A collaborative effort from Madlib and Freddie Gibbs – the union of one the most prolific producers in abstract hip hop and a hugely talented rhymer! We've said it before and we imagine we'll say it many more times, but Madlib really delivers when he's paired with straight forward MCs – and that's the case here. Moody funk soul backdrops provide a steady backdrop for Freddie's rhymes, with bonus beats that showcase Lib's more adventurous side. Tracks include 'Thuggin' (vocal and instrumental), 'Deep' (vocal and instrumental' and the bonus beats 'Riot Call' and 'Cold On The Blvd'. 12-inch, Vinyl record.

Raw crackling hip hop funk beatcraft at its deepest from mighty Madlib – working in his Beat Konducta style for this third entry in the epic Madlib's Medicine Show Series! Beat Konducta In Africa is a hazy hip hop instrumental set from 'Lib (lest you thought it might be a funky compilation of rare African material) with some additional mixing from J Rocc – based on rare African vinyl.

The sound is pure Madlib/ Beat Konducta heady hip hop funk – recognizable as being spun from and inspired by African material, and impeccably so, with that instantly identifiable, exploratory Madlib sonic stamp. He looks far beyond Afrobeat and funk sources, with some raw funk rock beats, psych, garage and more with some trippy vocal samples – and he's building up from blueprints records originally pressed all over Africa – Zambia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Botswana and Ivory Coast.

But too much mention of the source material risks making this sound like a compilation or a mix set, when it's Madlib all the way! Titles include 'Motherland', 'Raw Introduction To Afreaka', 'Warrior's Theme', 'Street Hustler', 'Afritonic' (Pts 1 & 2), 'Tradition', 'Blackfire', 'Obtaive', 'Mtima', 'African Bounce', 'Freedom Play', 'Natural Sound Waves', 'Unika (Outro)' and many more. 43 tracks on the CD version, which includes 6 bonus tracks. Advanced Jazz from Madlib – No 8 in his sprawling, epic monthly series of 2010 – a nearly 80 minute trip into Madlib's jazz crates! This course in Advanced Jazz finds 'Lib in incomparable DJ form – a mix of material from a half century of jazz recordings peppered with a mad selection of sampled vocal bites! Straighter jazz, fusiony grooves, and global funk make the cut – each of the 10 untitled tracks a suite of far reaching grooves. If you know a thing about Madlib, you know he has an amazing ability to blend disparate elements together for a fluidly funky vibe, and he pulls that off masterfully here on Medicine Show No 8!

A Stones Throw sci-fi masterpiece – one that was destined for greatness from conception, but we're still pretty well blown away by the final product! MC Doom and beatmaster Madlib couldn't be better suited for a collaboration. As much as we've dug the best of Doom's material of the last couple years, he's always needed a good editor – and Madlib brings nothing but the best sci-fi sound collages, scratches, and titanically driving funky beats – the grooved out 70s side of 'Lib's personality is wisely given a powder, while in the company of a vocal presence that's as insane as Doom.

When it's not so pounding, the sound drops into the kinda gloomy, murky crackle of earliest Wu Tang. This is easily the best album of its kind since Dr. Octagon tore the flood gates open. 'The Illest Villains', 'Accordian', 'Bistro', 'Raid' feat Medaphoar, 'America's Most Blunted', 'Rainbows', 'Curls', 'Money Folder', 'Hardcore Hustle','Fancy Clown', 'Supervillain', 'All Caps', 'Rhinestone Cowboy' and more. LP, Vinyl record album. An incredible epilogue EP from the eternally great J Dilla – featuring several of the freshest tracks from the instant classic Shining album – and appearances by friends and admirers Common, D'Angelo, Pharoahe Monch, Guilty Simpson and Madlib! 'So Far To Go' is vintage Dilla – with a soul beat back drop, a righteous rhyme by Common and an angelic sung hook from D'Angelo – with the vocals fading out early enough to leave us alone with Dilla's beautiful beatcraft.

'Baby' is another work of genius – with a touching bit of strings and a symphonic soul sample backdrop. 'Love' also brings the symphonic soul sound, but it's more of an uptempo tune – with Pharoahe there to vamp it up! 12-inch, Vinyl record. The best to date of any of the duo projects from adventurous hip hop legend Madlib and no nonsense MC Freddie Gibbs! As cool as Madlib's more envelope-pushing, unpredictable and cosmos-expanding productions are, it's always fantastic to hear him produce for straight-forward rhymers. 'Deeper' has a chilling bit of soul strings soaring over a spare, moody beat that's a perfect foil for Freddie's vocals.

'Harold's' is another gritty soul steeped track with tough rhymes. Includes vocal and instrumental versions of 'Deeper' and 'Harold's' – plus the bonus beats 'Ups & Downs' and 'The Long Walk Home'. 12-inch, Vinyl record. Hazy jazz funk and soul jazz sounds from Madlib's Young Jazz Rebels – taking the gritty, percussive Madlib vibe to the outer realm here – on one of the most free jazz associated efforts Madlib has ever dropped, if not the most! The beat is the foremost element through most of Slave Riot, but it's a free and unpredictable one that varies in heaviness or sparseness from track to track – with piano & keys and buoyant bass grooves.

Some of it skews towards electro acoustic fusiony sounds, but it's pretty gritty and largely indebted to the great spirtual and soul jazz of the 60s & 70s – as filtered through Madlib! Titles Includes 'Ancestors', 'The Legend Of Mankind', 'The Sun', 'Newear', 'Hate/ Love', 'Theme From Illusion Suite', 'Nino's Deed', 'Nappy Headed History', the multipart 'Slave Riot' and 'Black Freedom'. A platter of Madlib beats – the first in a series of instrumental hip hop from 'Lib's Beat Konducta (formerly Beat Conductor) moniker! Madlib's production work has always had a filmic groove, and this set collects and assembles the most cinematic of said beats into an (unsurprisingly) incredible 2-sided piece. The soundscapes really kind of run the gamut of his hip hop styles – always soulful, and always funky, whether he's rocking a stone funk or an electro-modeled groove. Honestly, how much longer is it going to take for the mainstream to finally catch up with this genius!?! Tracks include 'The Comeback ( Madlib)', 'The Payback (Gotta)', 'Face The Sun (Africa)', 'Stax (Strings)', 'Left On Silverlake (Ride)', 'Offbeat (Grooves)','Pyramids (Change)', 'Eternal Broadcaster (Authentic)' and more!

LP, Vinyl record album. Smart, streetwise raps from Freddie Gibbs, backed by restlessly inventive production from Madlib – here on one of the best records yet on 'Lib's own Madlib Invazion imprint! If you'll forgive us a little bit of repetition – because we KNOW we've written this before – there's just something extra riveting about Madlib's production work for straight shooting, street lingo slinging, no nonsense MCs.

The freewheeling inspiration and bottomless depth of unpredictable sample funk is there, as always. It's leaner, tighter and with a thicker backdrop of beats. Gibbs is sharply on point throughout here, and if it seems like an oddball pairing at first glance, rest assured, these guys work GREAT together. Guests include Danny Brown – who drops some top shelf wordplay of his own on 'High' – plus the Wu legend Raekwon on 'Bomb', Domo Genius & Earl Sweatshirt on 'Robes', Domo Genius, G-Whiz, Mac Miller and more on the title cut, and more. Other titles include 'Supplier', 'Scarface', 'Deeper', 'Harold's', 'Thuggin', 'Real' and 'Uno'. Tripped out hip hop from the super team of Madlib, fellow Stones Throw veteran MED and underground hero Blu – with an impressive guest roster that includes MF Doom, Aloe Blacc, Hodgy Beats, Oh No, Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk, Jimetta Rose, Phonte, Frank Nitt and others!

Quasimoto Catechin The Viber Download For Mac

Madlib is on the beats for every track, showing his range with a variety of moods here, tailered to the vocalists from track-to-track – from psychedelic boom bap behind Hodgy Beats, to bubbling boogie funk for Dam-Funk, bass heavy minimalism for Nitty, neo hip hop soul from Phonte & Likewise, and beyond. Strong work from a top notch ensemble! Titles include 'Serving', 'Drive In', 'Get Money', 'Streets', 'The Stroll','Belly Full', 'The Buzz', 'Birds', 'Knock Knock', 'Burgundy Whip' and more. 15 tracks in all.

We're always happy to see the names MED, Blu & Madlib turn up – and this tight EP represents their legacies proudly, separately and as a trio! Madlib's distinctive craft is on full display in the beats.

He has an inimitable way of layering anthemic funky soul bedrock with unpredictable beatcraft, a deep, rumbling bass sound, and bits of sampled strings and other touches that pluck at the emotions while still sounding raw and gritty. Whether the top shelf rhymes are inspired by the beats, vice versa, or a little of both is ripe for discussion, but this is wholly solid work from all parties. Includes the title track with Oh No, 'Jungles' feat Black Shakespeare, 'House Keys', 'Even Though' and 'Wonderful' – plus both the instrumental and acapella versions 'The Turn Up' and 'Jungles' on the flip/ LP, Vinyl record album.

One of the hippest Blue Note collections ever – 12 tracks used as the blueprint for Madlib's Shades Of Blue project – a mixture of funky jazz and killer 60s hardbop numbers! Some of the tracks are core Blue Note numbers, but others are much more left-of-center – and together, the package makes for a wonderful batch of jazzy grooves – cuts that slide easily from electric to acoustic, always grooving with a super-dope sort of style! Titles include 'The Look Of Slim' by Gene Harris & The Three Sounds, 'Illusion' by Andrew Hill, 'Distant Land' by Donald Byrd, 'Mystic Brew' by Ronnie Foster, 'Stormy' by Reuben Wilson, 'Please Set Me At Ease' by Bobbi Humphrey, 'Peace' by Horace Silver, 'Footprints' by Wayne Shorter, 'Montara' by Bobby Hutcherson, and 'Stepping Into Tomorrow' by Donald Byrd. LP, Vinyl record album. A brilliant creative leap for singer/ rhymer/ producer Anderson.Paak as a solo star – released months after his standout, near show-stealing moments on Dr. Dre's Compton record!.Paak's proved himself a stellar collaborator many times over by the time Malibu dropped, and here he proves a stellar host – but make no mistake, Malibu is his show, and a REALLY strong one.

Contemporary hip hop soul with grit and heart – with appearances by BJ The Chicago Kid, Robert Glasper, Rapsody, The Game, Talib Kweli and more on the mic, plus guest production by Madlib, Hi-Tek and others. Includes 'The Bird', 'Heart Don't Stand A Chance', 'The Waters' with BJ The Chicago Kid, 'Put Me Thru', 'Without You' feat Rapsody, 'Room In Here' feat The Game & Sonyae Elise, 'Celebrate', 'Come Down', 'Your Prime', 'The Dreamer' with Talib Kweli & Timan Family Choir and more. LP, Vinyl record album. The classic batch of instrumentals from J Dilla – one that strongly transcends the hip hop genre – and perhaps his rawest, and most adventurous listening experience ever!

The loopy soul samples, rich synth/ electro shine, and thumping bass and soul beats that Dilla largely made his name on are laced throughout, but he also takes things a step into stranger territory – with spacey elements that buzz as much as they groove! The cuts are never less than soulful and funky, and never really steps into his peer Madlib's brand of the weeded out style, either. We love how raw this all feels, too! It's easily identifiable as the work of Jay Dee, but at the same time, wholly unpredictable! One of the best releases that Stone's Throw ever released – instrumental or vocal! Includes 'Donuts (Intro & Outro)', 'Workinonit', 'Waves', 'Light My Fire', 'People', 'Mash', 'Airworks', 'Lightworks', 'Stepson Of The Clapper', 'One Eleven', 'Don't Cry', 'Geek Down', 'Thunder', 'Gobstopper', 'Walkinonit', 'U-Love', 'Last Donut Of The Night' and more.

LP, Vinyl record album. A compelling instrumentals set from producer Jansport J – with a big sound, head nodding beatcraft that rarely lets up, and some really great use of samples – a set that feels inspired by classic hip hop without falling back on a 'golden age' vibe. He's got an adventurous sensibility that feels akin to modern luminaries like Madlib or Dilla, without copping their styles in any way – a little more playful in spots, and moodier in others – you can definitely hear why he's earned production credits for stars and underground heavies alike, from Snoop, to Korupt, to Blu and many more. Titles include 'Sleep', 'Awe', 'Baby', 'Last', 'Clouds', 'God', 'Blue', 'Low', 'A Wake' and more. LP, Vinyl record album.

The MASSIVE collaborative album from the dynamic duo of Madlib and J Dilla! Essentially, Madlib handles the production on the even numbers in the set with Dilla on the vocals, and the roles are reversed on the odd numbers. Each producer does his own thing, as only he can do it – Madlib brings the funky sampler genius – and Dilla rocks the thumping Detroit hip hop soul crunch. A number of guest rhymers step to the mic, including Talib Kweli, Percee P, Frank-N-Dank & Guilty Simpson, and the flow is seamless. Not only was this one of the best hip hop albums of '03, it also has a dyed-in-the-wool classic production style, and it sounds just as great a few years later! So very highly recommended! Tracks include 'L.A.

To Detroit', 'McNasty Filth' with Frank-n-Dank, 'Nowadayz', 'Champion Sound', 'The Red', 'Heavy', 'Raw S.!t' with Kweli, 'The Official', 'The Heist', 'The Mission', 'React' with Quasimodo, 'The Exclusive' with Percee P, 'Survival Test', 'Starz' and 'No Games'. LP, Vinyl record album. Mos Def's first and only LP for the Downtown label, and it's a real return to top shelf, distinctive hip hop for Mos – if the music retail world wasn't in such a strange, troubled period circa '09 this woulda made a much bigger impact and be considered a classic comeback! It's absolutely strong stuff, and to be honest, much better than we would have expected – even if we knew he had great hip hop left in him after some creatively wayward post-millennium years. The beats are compelling, unpredictable, and steeped in abstract global funk that would sound at home on Stones Throw – some of the beats are literally Stones Throw, given Madlib's Beat Konducta and Oh No's Oxperimental sounds to be found.

If we weren't already loving it, Slick Rick drops an unforgettable guest appearance on the the moody 'Auditorium', Georgia Anne Muldrow does her inimitable thing on 'Roses', and Talib Kweli rhymes on 'History'. Mos rhymes skillfully throughout, and with an infectious immediacy, as if he dropped records this tight all the time. Sadly, he doesn't, so this one's all the more rewarding! Other tracks include 'Twilite Speedball', 'Revelations', 'Pretty Danger', 'Quiet Dog', 'The Embassy', 'Wahid', 'Priority' and more. LP, Vinyl record album.

The second solo set from one half of the legendary Organized Konfusion – featuring production by Large Professor, Rockwilder, Madlib, Ammon Contact, Prince Po and others! Po's previous album Slickness wasn't revolutionary, but it really was a slept on gem – and Prettyblack picks up the torch and runs with a similarly strong stride. Rollicking, headnodder hip hop with busy rhymes. Titles include 'Prettyblack' (featuring scratches by Rhettmatic), 'Mecheti Lightspeed', 'Ask Me' feat 2mex of Visionaries, 'Right 2 Know' feat Chas West, 'Holla (L Boogie's Theme)' feat Presto & CJ, 'Feel It 4 U', 'Breaknight', 'Family', 'Creep On It', 'The City Sleeps' and more. 2 tracks recorded in roughly as many years from Quasimoto – maddest of all Madlib personas – in a batch of rarities and unreleased archival cuts that's as fresh and funky as anything 'Lib's delivered in years!

Lord Quas is often described as Madlib's id – delivering top notch, but wigged out, if smoke mellowed rhymes that are out of character for Madlib the influential producer. That's fair enough, but we dig it for the smarts, the unshakable funky mood and its roots in sample-based hip hop craftsmanship. Hypotic boombap that'll sound fresh forever – paired mad blunted rhymes! Titles include 'Broad Factor', 'Seasons Change', 'The Front', 'Youngblood', 'Astronaut', 'Planned Attack', 'Brothers Can't See Me', 'Catchin' The Vibe', 'Am I Confused?'

, 'Sparkdala (Original Version)', 'Green Power (Original Version)' and 'LAX To JFK'. LP, Vinyl record album. A very cool little combo – one that almost sounds like a funk band working with broken instruments! Stuff are really out to do something new here – borrowing bits of jazz and funk, then weaving together a sound that's equal parts acoustic and electric – but which has lots of fuzz and strange sonic qualities on the second half – thanks in part to the group's use of unusual instruments, including the wind synth – and their great ear for skittish, offbeat rhythms! The whole thing is maybe an extension of some of Madlib's jazzier work from years back – but airier at times too, and less tied to hip hop – with titles that include 'Galapagos', 'Delta', 'Slug', 'Strata', 'Spinning Leaf', and 'Vault'. LP, Vinyl record album. A very cool little combo – one that almost sounds like a funk band working with broken instruments!

The whole thing is maybe an extension of some of Madlib's jazzier work from years back – but airier at times too, and less tied to hip hop – with titles that include 'Galapagos', 'Delta', 'Slug', 'Strata', 'Spinning Leaf', and 'Vault'. Soul jazz vocalist Dwight Trible gathers the forces for this magnificent effort – an album pairing his emotionally rich vocals and singular spirit with a group of largely west coast allstars – and it's pure genius! The Life Force Trio, from what we can tell, is simply the moniker for a small army of free thinking guests from the deep funk, hip hop and turntablist underground assembled by Carlos Nino of Ammon Contact.

The guest list includes SA-RA, J Dilla, Madlib, Daedelus, Scienze Of Life, Nate Morgan, Dwight's Build An Ark fellows and many others. It features some vocals Dwight has laid down for other albums, and some unreleased recordings – how they pair up so intricately well, with such fresh and varied production is a beautiful mystery. This record could have merely served as an interesting exercise in combined talents, but instead it absolutely soars, and could be remembered as Dwight's masterpiece! It may also be one of the best Ninja Tune albums ever! Tracks include 'Equipoise' feat SA-RA, 'Freedom Dance', 'The Rhythm', 'Waves Of Infinite Harmony', a fresh take on Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme', 'Love Is The Answer', 'I Was Born On Planet Rock', 'Constellations' feat Super Nova, 'Celestial Blues' and more.

The CD also includes a bonus disc on instrumentals! Mad funky vibes from The Wooden Glass – a group led by vibist Billy Wooten – an obscure player in the history books, but one who has had a huge influence on 21st Century groove! Billy's got a hard style on the vibes that's like Bobby Hutcherson and Roy Ayers at their soulful best – working here with a tight combo that includes guitar and organ, very much in the mode of his classic work with the slightly more famous (although equally obscure) Indianapolis combo The Ninteenth Whole! The set's a live one, but it really cooks with a sweet electric feel – echoey, funky, and soulful – as tunes spin out in a staggering approach to the vibes that's unmatched by any record of its time. Billy was a huge influence on Madlib and the sound of Yesterday's New Quintet – and hearing this set, it's virtually a blueprint for that group's current work!

Includes great covers of 'In The Rain', 'Day Dreaming', and 'Love Is Here' – plus Wooten's excellent original tracks 'Monkey Hips & Rice' and 'Joy Ride'. Badu is back with some of the deepest, funkiest and best music of her career – a mindblowing treatise for a New Amerykah – and what we'll consider an instant classic whether the world at large catches on or not! Erykah steps up this time with a set that balances the wilder impulses of her criminally underappreciated Worldwide Underground and more of a hip hop based, righteously grooving style – but still bursts with a freshness that's unrivaled to say the least. From free spirited soul, to sparse hip hop funk this record is both blunt and beautiful – with a slow-building emotional resonance that'll reach the most jaded souls.

Modern soul music of the first order that gives us goosebumps from the first spin to the last beat! The album kicks off with Erykah riffing on and remixing Ramp's 'American Promise' as an intro – and it just gets deeper from there. Producers/ collaborators include Madlib, Sa-Ra, Karriem Riggins, James Poyser and?uestlove. Titles include 'The Healer', 'Me', 'My People', 'Soldier', 'The Cell', 'Twinkle', 'Master Teacher', 'The Hump' and 'Telephone'. The 9th Wonder produced single 'Honey' is an unlisted bonus track. Kendrick Lamar takes wider creative left turns than ever before on To Pimp A Butterfly – with a funk steeped production style that filters tried-and-true P Funk influences through leftfield modern beatcraft styles, inspired by cats like Madlib to Thundercat, the latter of whom is an official contributor.

Fresh material from an increasingly pivotal figure – who may not be revolutionizing the game on the level of the heavy critical praise he's heaped with, but he's certainly marching to his own beat, rather than chasing hits! Includes 'Wesley's Theory' with George Clinton & Thundercat, 'King Kunta', 'These Walls' with Bilal, Anna Wise & Thundercat, 'Aright', 'For Sale?' , 'Institutionalized' with a Slick Rick-homage of a guest verse by Snoop Dogg (sign us up for any record that gives props to The Ruler.and extra points for transplanting that style of flow to Compton), 'Momma', 'Hood Politics', 'The Blacker The Berry', 'How Much A Dollar Cost' feat James Fauntleroy & Ronald Isley, 'Mortal Man' and more.

LP, Vinyl record album. Slum Village's legendary Jay Dee-produced Fantastic Vols I & II, with instrumentals, bonus songs, in a nicely-priced 4CD set!

Vol I was at one time one of the most sought-after hip hop albums of the era – with some of the most rugged-and-raw Jay Dee production on record! Honestly, we're left pretty close to speechless by how tightly these tracks hold up – and is indeed the template for so many great Dilla productions to come. Vol II, on the other hand, is of the most influential hip hop albums of the 2000s – with lots of straight soul, deep funk, and mellowed out jazzy touches in the production that became a staple in underground soul and hip hop, influencing everyone from?uestlove and the Roots, to D'Angelo and other neo soul heroes and heroines. Vols I & II are CDs 1 & 2 in this collection, with a Vol III made up of instrumentals and Vol IV with bonus remixes, instros and more with Madlib, Pete Rock and others. A wonderful reimagining of the music of Thelonious Monk – one that's done in a melange of jazz and contemporary elements – in a style that's very similar to the time that Madlib visited Blue Note over a decade ago!

As with that set, there's a real 21st Century vibe here – a completely new take on Monk's music – as some tracks are played live, others are sampled, and production often includes a fair bit of hip hop elements, especially beats – woven together wonderfully with the tunes. Styles vary nicely, given the different artists participating in the project – and this limited EP features the tracks 'Cyberspace Love' by Wonk and 'Think Of One' by Melraw with Sara Yoshida from Mononkul. 7-inch, Vinyl record. A glorious send off from J Dilla – with some of the most soulful productions Dilla's ever laid down – and appearances by Common, D'Angelo, Pharoahe Monch, Madlib, MED, Black Thought and others! It's impossible to listen to The Shining without considering the sad circumstances surrounding its release, and all too easy to over praise, but this record is filled timelessly inventive production – and passionate rhymes from the honored guests. A lot of the more leftfield, abstract touches that create most of the character on the Donuts LP are really on the outskirts of the sound here – a much richer, deeper, funky drum influenced batch of sounds. We're speechless.

There's one more official posthumous LP in the can, and thank goodness for that. Tracks include in-your-f.kin' face intro 'Geek Down' with Busta Rhymes, 'E=MC2' feat Common, 'Love Jones', 'Love' feat Pharoahe Monch, 'Baby' feat Madlib & Guilty Simpson, 'So Far To Go' feat Common & D'Angelo (come back D', the world needs you), 'Jungle Love' feat MED & Guilty Simpson, 'Dime Piece (Remix)' feat Dwele, 'Love Movin' feat Black Thought and 'Won't Do'. LP, Vinyl record album. Ain't no party like a Alkoholik party! The Liks first LP, and a breath of fresh air at the from the early 90s west coast scene – and all these later, a bellwether for classic hip hop, period.

Straight up, stripped down beats from E Swift and King Tee – plus a couple of very early Madlib tracks – and while more rhymes about booze than we could have imagined in rap, then or now, it transcends the motif big time – it's never too sloshed to raise the bar. Includes 'Lik Wit', 'Only When I'm Drunk', 'Last Call', 'Can't Tell Me Sh.t', 'Turn Tha Party Out', 'Bullsh.t', 'Soda Pop', 'Make Room', 'Mary Jane', and 'Who Dem Ni.as'. LP, Vinyl record album. Pharmacy-strength Anti-Anxiety meds for the ears from Swarvy!

Swarvy has been producing, mixing, mastering and recording top quality independent hip hop instrumentals, heavily influenced by psych beats and soul jazz for a while at this point, and this is one of his best to date. It's a bit akin to Madlib in the way he anchors far-reaching jazz funk atmosphere with insistent beatcraft, but we don't want to diminish the uniqueness of Swarvy in comparison, he's a distinctive figure for sure. Highly recommended! Includes 'Wurk', 'Jonah On Keys', 'Walk Wit Me' feat Jeremiah Jae, 'Think & Say (More To Life) feat Koreatown Oddity, 'Do What I Do' feat Versis, 'Melorse', 'Oversea', 'Best Plan', 'Birth' feat Ivan Ave, 'Savage', 'Brotherhood', 'Anti-Anxiety' feat Vida Jafari and more. LP, Vinyl record album.
